A devastating fire erupted at One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR) in Andover, New Jersey, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The blaze, which began around 3:40 p.m., caused catastrophic damage to the kennel area, resulting in the tragic loss of six dogs.
Four dogs initially went missing during the chaos but were later found safe.
In response to the emergency, OSCAR urgently called upon the community to assist in evacuating the animals.
However, access to the shelter was restricted by authorities to ensure safety.
By 5:30 p.m., the shelter announced that no further assistance was needed at that time.
Currently, all surviving dogs are accounted for and are receiving care through temporary housing, foster placements, and partner rescues.
OSCAR has expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of community support.
They have set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover emergency veterinary care, medical treatment, and foster expenses.
Those interested in fostering or adopting can find applications on the OSCAR website.
For further assistance or inquiries, contact OSCAR at (862) 243-2962 or via email at oscaremergency2026@gmail.com.
The shelter has requested that the public refrain from visiting the property during ongoing recovery efforts.
They have also stated that they do not have space for physical donations at this time.
OSCAR remains committed to rebuilding and continuing their mission to rescue and care for animals in need. |
