On Friday, September 26, 2025, the Sparta High School football team delivered a commanding 34–20 win against Vernon in Vernon, NJ.
The Spartans dominated the first three quarters, racking up 27 points while holding the Vikings to just 7.
Vernon rallied in the fourth with 13 points, but Sparta added another touchdown to seal the game.
Quarterback Shane Hoover was electric, completing 19 of 25 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns.
His top target, Christian Brevig, caught seven passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns, including a 49-yard bomb.
Brady Shagawat contributed with four receptions for 50 yards and 17 carries totaling 108 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Additional scoring came from Stone Herbison and Le-shem Little, each with three receptions and a touchdown.
Defensively, Dean Kanceljack and Jacob Etro each snagged an interception, with Etro also forcing a fumble.
Jace Stiansen, Enzo Greco, and Ryder Chlodnicki recorded sacks, while Christian Layman and Kanceljack made key tackles for loss.
Sparta now stands at 4–1 and will host Dover on Thursday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Cassels Field. |
