In response to growing concerns over public safety, Sparta Township has introduced enhanced security screenings for attendees of public meetings held at the Sparta Municipal Building located at 65 Main Street.
Effective immediately, all visitors are required to pass through metal detectors and may undergo bag checks before entering the council chambers.
These measures are conducted by uniformed officers from the Sparta Police Department, stationed at the building's entrance.
According to township officials, this proactive initiative is not in response to any specific threat but aligns with best practices in municipal governance to ensure a secure environment for both officials and residents during civic proceedings.
Residents are encouraged to arrive early to accommodate the additional time required for these screenings.
Council meetings are typically held twice a month and remain open to the public.
The next scheduled meeting is on October 8, 2025, at 7:30 PM.
Community members are urged to stay informed and participate in local governance while respecting the new security protocols.
For more information or to contact the township, residents can call the municipal offices at (973) 729-4493. |
