At the recent Sparta Township Council meeting, residents expressed significant concerns regarding a proposed land swap intended to facilitate a new trail connecting Station Park to the Sparta School District’s bus depot.

The plan involves exchanging 5.6 acres near West Mountain Road, currently owned by the New Jersey Natural Lands Trust, for township-owned property.

However, many residents were unaware of surveying activities conducted near their properties, leading to frustration over the lack of communication.

The proposed trail would run behind homes near Cassels Field, raising privacy and environmental concerns among residents.

They have requested clearer maps and more transparency before any decisions are made.

The council assured attendees that no private land would be conveyed and committed to enhancing communication efforts moving forward.

Further review and public input are planned for the coming months.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting Sparta Township’s official website or contacting the municipal offices at (973) 729-4493.

Meetings are held at 65 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871.
