Sparta’s Labor Day 5K Unites 325 Runners for Environmental Causes

On Monday, September 1, 2025, White Deer Plaza in Sparta, NJ, buzzed with energy as 325 participants gathered for the 8th Annual Labor Day 5K.

Hosted by Askin & Hooker and sanctioned by USATF, the event aimed to support environmental conservation efforts, notably benefiting the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation.

Race announcer and DJ Mike Whittam kept spirits high throughout the morning.

Hydration stations, courtesy of Andy Ball of Culligan Water, offered water and hot chocolate to participants.

Post-race refreshments included bagels and fruit for all attendees.

Medals were awarded to the top three male and female runners across various age categories, ranging from 7 to 99.

Teams with the largest turnouts—Morris County Striders, Sparta High School Cross Country, and The Dog Butlers—received special recognition.

The event underscored the community's commitment to environmental stewardship and highlighted the vibrant spirit of Sussex County.
