On August 28, 2025, the Sparta Township Clerk conducted the official ballot drawing for the November 4 council election.

Voters will choose between Michael Sylvester, listed first on the ballot with the slogan β€œFinancial Accountability and People Over Politics,” and Molly Whilesmith, whose motto is β€œExperience Matters. No Mega-Warehouses.”

This election fills the council seat left vacant by Dan Chiariello and the winner will serve until December 31, 2026.

Key campaign issues include fiscal transparency and local development, underscoring the significance for Sparta’s future leadership.

Recently, the township council approved a 2.5% increase in the 2025 municipal budget, raising it to approximately $31.6 million and ensuring the continued delivery of essential services.

Sparta also achieved certification as a film-ready community, aiming to attract film productions and stimulate local economic growth.
