The article discusses the Sparta Township Council's approval of the language for a ballot question on allowing recreational cannabis businesses in the town.

The council faced much discussion and debate before ultimately voting to move forward with the ballot question.

The approved language will ask voters whether they support the sale of recreational cannabis within Sparta for consumers aged 21 and older.

Several council members expressed concerns about the potential impact on the community and whether the revenue from cannabis sales would be enough to offset any negative effects.

The council emphasized the importance of letting the residents decide on this issue through a ballot question.

Quote Of The Day

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. – Martin Luther King Jr.

The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta's Safety Village is returning for its 34th year to educate local children on important safety topics.

The program will run for two weeks in July and cover topics such as fire safety, water safety, stranger danger, and more.

The village includes a mock town with streets, buildings, and even a functioning traffic light to simulate real-life scenarios for the children to learn from.

Each day focuses on a different safety topic, and the children will participate in interactive activities and presentations to reinforce the lessons.

The Safety Village aims to empower children with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in various situations.

Isabella Frattura, a standout javelin thrower from Sparta High School, capped off her 2025 season at the New Balance Nationals on June 23.

In a thrilling final throw, she achieved 141-11, moving from eighth to fourth place and earning All-American honors. Previously, her qualifying throw was 134-1, requiring at least 135 feet to secure a podium spot. Frattura’s personal best is 150-3, achieved at the Meet of Champions.

Throughout her junior and senior years, she has claimed consecutive NJSIAA Group 3 and Meet of Champions titles in javelin. Frattura will continue her athletic career at Liberty University with the Eagles.
