At Helen Morgan School in Sparta, NJ, the 'Be the Change' club recently celebrated their triumph in the Center for Prevention's annual Red Ribbon Week contest by planting 100 red tulip bulbs.
Under the guidance of fifth-grade teacher and club advisor Laura Tedeschi, this initiative is part of the Center's 'Plant the Promise' campaign, which promotes a safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyle.
The bulbs were planted in two courtyard beds visible to students and staff, a space recently revitalized through a scouting project, according to Principal Doug Layman.
Students brought gardening tools and gloves from home or used shovels provided by the Center for Prevention.
The red tulips will bloom in spring, serving as a vibrant reminder of the importance of drug-free choices.
The club also engages in other community service projects, including food collection for the Sparta Community Food Pantry.
In addition to the tulip planting, the school's courtyard garden has become a focal point for garden-based education, allowing students to connect with nature and learn about the environment.
These student-led initiatives not only beautify the school grounds but also instill a sense of responsibility and community service among the students.
As the tulips bloom in the coming spring, they will stand as a testament to the school's commitment to anti-drug awareness and the positive impact of youth prevention programs.
Through these efforts, Helen Morgan School continues to foster a culture of drug-free living and active community involvement among its students. |
