Health authorities in Sussex County are currently investigating a surge of gastrointestinal illnesses reported since late January, particularly in areas like Sparta and Hopatcong.
Residents have experienced symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, chills, nausea, and fever.
While most individuals recover within one to three days, the exact cause - whether viral, bacterial, or otherwise—remains undetermined.
Notably, no specific food items, restaurants, or locations have been linked to these cases.
Residents experiencing symptoms are advised to consult their healthcare providers for testing and to report their symptoms and location to the county health department at health@sussex.nj.us.
Preventative measures include frequent handwashing with soap and water, thorough cooking of shellfish, washing fruits and vegetables, disinfecting surfaces, and staying home for at least 48 hours after symptoms subside.
For more information, residents can contact the Sussex County Division of Health at (973) 579-0370 or visit their official website. |
