SPARTA, NJ
– The Lake Mohawk MMA has received approval to open at the Upper Lake Plaza strip mall. During the meeting, applicant Frank Kerner was accompanied by attorney Todd Hooker and Upper Lake Plaza owner William Wilson Jr., who supported the request for a site plan waiver for parking.

Wilson, who has owned the Upper Lake Plaza since the 1980s, testified that there are 101 parking spaces and stated, "I have never seen the lot full." Several planning board members concurred with his statement.

According to Sparta Planning Board Engineer Dave Simmons, 144 parking spaces are required, but only 101 currently exist.

Kerner mentioned that they plan to offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts classes mainly from 5 to 9 p.m., with the possibility of adding morning classes if there is demand. He also shared that he previously operated a location in Franklin.

The Lake Mohawk MMA's application was unanimously approved.
